Hello. My name is Daniel Maughiman. I am a Production Designer, Art Director, and Prop Stylist for feature film, brand, and advertising content. Portland, Oregon is where I am from, it’s where I developed my craft, and is where I am based now. My boundary for where I work however is limitless. Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, New York, New Orleans,  Mexico City and beyond. 

I started my film career without knowing what was possible for me. I was looking for what satisfied my interests, and a close friend offered me a spot as a PA on a commercial for few  bucks in my pocket. It took one day of being on set to feel at home. Seeing the builds under the lights, hearing the calls, watching the camera moves and I was mesmerized to learn that I could  work and grow in such an environment. I stayed with it. I gave it my all as a Production Assistant for the next few years, but I was there to learn. I helped the Art Dept. move set pieces, I helped the grips set flags, I helped Costumes roll racks, and helped the ADs with  background… The Art Dept. though had a natural attraction for me. To decorate, to draft the aesthetic, to do arts and crafts, to get downright creative on how to make the artificial become authentic. It was exactly what I needed in my life. 

I worked my way up as a Set Decorator, On-Set Dresser, and Assistant Property Master on commercials and films such as PIG, SHOWING UP, THE RENTAL, and KINDS OF KINDNESS. I was then granted  the role of Art Director on the Netflix movie “THE STAND AT PAXTON COUNTY”, and from there came my first film as Production Designer on “SOMETIMES I THINK ABOUT DYING”. A breakout  film for Director Rachel Lambert that debuted at the SUNDANCE Film Festival in the US Dramatic Competition Category. It was altogether an experience that reaffirmed my love and desire to design and decorate sets with life, color, light, shadows, waves, art, and unique ornamental touches that are stamped with an appeal and design that is one of a kind. 

In my personal life, I love the simple things. For me, its all about traveling the world, looking at beautiful art, standing at the historical sites, the movies, the music, books, family, friends,  nature, house plants, fashion, basketball, laughter, love and dreaming.
